LISTENING- COMMONLY-HELD BELIEFS
IF YOU ARE WATCHING YOUR WEIGHT, WHAT MATTERS IS WHAT
YOU EAT, NOT WHEN YOU EAT IT. A CALORIE AT MIDDAY IS NO DIFFERENT FROM A
CALORIE AT MIDNIGHT
BEING EXPOSED TO COLD TEMPERATURES LOWERS OUR BODY’S DEFENCES, SO THAT
MEANS THAT IF YOU GET COLD, YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO BECOME INFECTED BY A COLD,
OR TO DEVELOP A COLD IF YOU’VE ALREADY BEEN INFECTED
METAL PIPES ARE EXCELLENT CONDUCTORS OF ELECTRICITY,
AS IS TAP WATER
READING IN THE DARK OR IN BAD LIGHT CAN CAUSE A
TEMPORARY STRAIN ON THE EYES, BUT IT RAPIDLY GOES AWAY ONCE YOU RETURN TO
BRIGHT LIGHT
SOME LUCKY PEOPLE PRODUCE CHEMICALS WHICH EITHER
PREVENT MOSQUITOES FROM DETECTING THEM OR WHICH ACTUALLY DRIVE THEM AWAY
BOTTLED WATER (MINERAL WATER) ISN´T SUBJECTED TO THE
SAME REGULAR TESTING THAT TAP WATER IS, AND IN SOME TESTS THAT WERE DONE IN THE
U.S A THIRD OF THE SAMPLES ANALYSED WERE CONTAMINATED

private or state health systems?
State Health Systems: Advantages
- Good healthcare should be available to everyone for free.
- State healthcare is paid by the government using money from taxes.
- Everyone has access to the same quality of care and treatment.
- Private healthcare is unfair because only wealthy people can afford it. Private healthcare creates inequality
- Private healthcare doesn´t cover all medical services.
- The National Health Service (NHS) in Spain provides free healthcare for every resident.
- Patients must pay the monthly costs of private insurance whether they need the services or not.
Private Healthcare: Disadvantages
- You get what you pay for: the more cover you want, the higher your premium will be.
- It can be difficult to know which PMI (private medical Insurance) policy suits you
- You can't predict illness: you might develop a condition that isn't covered.
- Expertise: private hospitals might not have the same depth of expertise found in teams within the NHS or all departments on one site
Private Healthcare: Advantages
- State hospitals are often very large and difficult to run.
- Private hospitals have shorter waiting lists for operations and appointments.
- Patients can benefit from faster treatment.
- Many people prefer to pay for a more personal service.
- Patients have their own room and more comfortable facilities.
- unrestricted visiting hours for guests.
- Patients may request a specialist when they feel that they need a specialist without waiting for a referral from a doctor.
- You choose your doctor

ANSWERS
A Polish hospital cleaner in Norway has been fired for speaking Polish during her lunch break. Johanna Renclawowicz, 34, received her marching orders from the Sykehuset Telemark hospital. Her dismissal letter said: "You have been given information that only Norwegian shall be spoken during working time. Your colleagues and patients have repeatedly complained that Polish is spoken in the eating area, cleaning department and corridors, etc." The hospital claimed they continually warned Ms Renclawowicz against using Polish at work. In August, they sent her a letter that was titled, "The use of language in the workplace". In it, she was told that speaking Polish created a "bad working environment".
Ms Renclawowicz moved to Norway four years ago to find a better life. She now has a three-year-old daughter and a mortgage on her house. She started work at the hospital in August 2011 as a temporary worker. Four other Poles at the hospital warned her that the hospital had banned Polish. She said: "It was strange that we were expected to speak Norwegian to each other on our breaks, even when we're not that fluent….Every time the boss heard one of us speaking Polish, she said, 'Speak Norwegian'. She mainly complained if it happened during lunch breaks." There were even, "We speak Norwegian at work" posters put up in the hospital. She will now sue the hospital for discrimination and unfair dismissal.
